First hospitality job:
I worked at my local Dairy Queen in Kitchener.
Age you started working in hospitality:
16

Your inspiration to begin working in hospitality:
I left the industry briefly when I went to university and worked elsewhere for a couple of years. I soon realized I missed the type of connection the hospitality industry provides.

My hospitality mentor:
I have a few mentors, but someone I owe much of my success to is my former boss and former ORHMA Board member Darren Sim.

What are your favourite aspects of your job?
People crave connection as much as they crave their favourite food, and so it's often that family, friends, and colleagues connect over a meal. I love being a part of facilitating that connection as much as I love connecting with our guests.

What has inspired you to continue your career path in hospitality?
Apart from the connection it provides, it's a fact that everybody needs to eat! It's a great business to be in, and when done well it can be very rewarding.

Advice for students interested in a career in hospitality:
Lots of people will want to be in the hospitality industry, then take whatever role they can to get into it. Most of us started in roles where we got our hands dirty and worked our way up (and sometimes sideways!). Just get your foot in the door and then go from there.
